The Almanac of Higher Education, 2023
This year, the Almanac looks a bit different. Don’t call it a makeover, think of it more as an evolution. Putting this issue together, we wanted to make sure we’re presenting the data in a way that makes the most sense and not just the way we’ve always done it. The Chronicle’s 2023-24 Almanac contains roughly 70-percent returning tables from previous years and 30-percent new or reimagined tables. We hope that these new tables will be added to those you return to each year to track the progress and fluctuations of higher education.
In addition to the Data Points and States sections that bookend the Almanac, this year we organized the data into six, rather than five, sections. With these more-specific topic areas, we also did away with sub-sections. Within the next 125 pages, you will move through: student characteristics, student aid and debt, work-force characteristics, work-force compensation, institutional characteristics, and institutional finance. The photos this year are also a little different, and you can read more about that in the issue.
