DEI Legislation Tracker
Use our DEI Legislation Tracker data to understand the political effort to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in all 50 states. For three years, The Chronicle’s reporters have been tracking the life cycle of every proposed state legislative bill that’s been proposed to curtail the ways college administrators recruit and retain minority staff and students.
Our database identifies where in the nation the hiring of diversity officers, diversity training, diversity statements, identity-based hiring, promotion, and admission, and the offering of DEI-related courses has been banned.
It encompasses three years of legislative actions and details how long it took to get bills passed into law or fail to move forward. We also name which legislators proposed each bill and their party affiliation.
Use the data to gain insight into:
- Identity-conscious recruitment and retention efforts being banned.
- Locations of anti-DEI efforts.
- Success and failure rates of anti-DEI measures.
- Where laws have been put in place and dates they’re enacted.
- Names and party affiliation of legislation sponsors.
