Focus Collection: From the Reservation to College
Academic challenges are only part of what keeps Native American students from attending and graduating from college at higher rates. As The Chronicle’s Kelly Field reports, many family, cultural, and historical obstacles persist, and students may hesitate to tear themselves away from the needs of their relatives on the reservation to further their studies.
Tribal colleges, community colleges, and some state universities are seeking new strategies to guide these often-overlooked students on a path toward success. This 40-page collection gathers five articles, a photo essay, and 10 charts on that topic.
