Fraternities are associated with good times and a lasting sense of community. But they are linked with some darker events as well, including the needless deaths of members, and a culture of excessive drinking and bullying. At least one hazing-related death has occurred each year since 1970.
The eight articles in this collection describe the strategies that colleges are using to try to prevent fraternities from harming students, and at the same time to preserve the positive values of the Greek system.
